These paddle-designs are tried and proven to be functional in open water and surf conditions. They are hand foiled by Race Hawaii's Scott Bucknell out of Spruce and Cherry. Unlike the carbon fiber paddles in use today, they are straight.  This allows for proper penetration through chop and through waves without twirling.  They also float better and are easier to lean on than carbon fiber.
