Scott Bucknell
Scott Bucknell started Race Hawaii in 1984 on Oahu’s North Shore.
He has surfed and shaped surfboards since 1971 in this extreme sport location. While involved with design and manufacturing in surfing, he came upon the idea of using "RACE" for surfboards, events and products while watching the Indianapolis 500 on TV. He quickly realized the name stood for action and speed and should be applied to all sports.
The retail store in Haleiwa was open for 12 years, with good business practices, performance, and good will remembered by all. Casual beach attire, Race Shirts, hats, and surfboards made for an original signature brand outlet that is one of a kind.
He invented the X FIN which is a patent. It was ridden by many of note along with Randy Rarick who displayed and rode The X Fin at the Legends Contest in South America in circa 1993.
Now, after knee replacement, Scott is keenly involved in standup surfing with a new outlook. He has invented a new exercise double bladed standup paddle that is Patent-Pending. Please watch for that!
Race Hawaii is making standup paddles, standup boards, and will launch a product line of the great RACE HAWAII emblem shirts, hats, and the new RACE TRACKS mini fin systems.
Last, but not least, Paul Nichol and Scott , and David Bucknell are combining their efforts in business. Their creative line of Hawaiian Wooden Imagery is available to view online and purchase here.
